This performance by Keorapetse Kolwane at The Jazzy Rainbow is part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit which aims to foster a love and support for live music in our communities, as well as anchor small and medium sized venues in urban and rural Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape.
Durban’s The Jazzy Rainbow, in association with Concerts SA, launched its first straight jazz programme on the eve of Heritage Day in September2016 and is following up with the same concept in 2017. “#JazzyStraightAhead is about introducing regular, live, straight jazz concerts to our city in order to help keep the music alive,” says Oliver-Rene Haas. “
Keorapetse Kolwane is a performer, songwriter, composer, band leader, music educator and session vocalist. She is currently a student in the Jazz and Popular Music Department of University of Kwa-Zulu Natal. Prior to UKZN she completed her National Diploma in Jazz and Popular Music at Tshwane University of Technology. Having begun music at the age of 11, performing and competing successfully, she represented SACSA at an International Student Convention for the enrichment of arts and performance held at the Western Kentucky University, USA. She has toured throughout New York, Washington D.C, Louisville, Orlando and Cairo. Keorapetse was selected at the annual Grahamstown National Youth Jazz Festival to be part of the Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Band of 2015.
Keorapetse also works well as a session vocalist and band member in various jazz ensembles led by the likes of Concord Nkabinde, Viwe Mkhizwane, Nhlanhla Daniel Mahlangu and others. She has performed at Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, National Arts Festival, Jazz in The Cradle, Moretele Park Jazz Festival and continues to perform regularly in local live music venues. Keorapetse aspires mostly to influence young artists to dare to dream and pursue arts not only on a practical basis, but also educationally.
Throughout the centuries there were men who took first steps down new roads armed with nothing but their own vision. – Ayn Rand Keorapetse aspires to instil such vision in young artists.
She will be accompanied on stage by Zibusiso Makhathini on bass, Dalisu Ndlazi on drums, Stanley Matlou on drums, plus a guest horn player.

Concerts SA is a joint South African/Norwegian live music development project housed within the SAMRO Foundation. Concerts SA receives financial, administrative and technical support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SAMRO, the SAMRO Foundation and Concerts Norway. Working with musicians, promoters, venue owners and audiences, and providing support to the sector through research and skills development for music professionals, the project aims to build a vibrant and viable live music circuit in southern Africa. It also aims to develop an interest in and appreciation of live music by showcasing music performances and conducting workshops at schools.
