KZN Phil Honours Bafana Bafana

KZN Philharmonic Winter Season 2026
Playhouse Opera: Thurs 18 June at 7pm
Bafana Bafana face Czechia in Atlanta Stadium for their second FIFA match on Thursday 18 June just as the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra take to the stage for their second / final concert in the Winter Symphony Season in the Playhouse.
Visiting conductor, maestra Alexandra Arrieche, and principal trumpet player, Yosuke Matsui represent their soccer playing home countries, Brazil and Japan which sit on opposite sides of the globe, with CEO / Artistic Director, Bongani Tembe representing our very own South Africa.
They are getting into the “gees” of the upcoming FIFA games while enjoying the hospitality of 9th Avenue Waterfront – a culinary partner of the KZN Phil, who are hosting a special arts and culinary experience before and after the concert on Thursday.
To honour Youth Week, the concert curtain raiser features the KZN Youth Orchestra under the baton of maestro Lykele Temmingh, playing a carefully chosen programme of upbeat, energetic pieces referencing both the Comrades Marathon and the FIFA games.
Maestra Alexandra Arrieche conducts Schumann: Piano Concerto in A minor and Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 3 / Scottish. Soloist is Federico Colli on Piano.
Tickets: Quicket.
