Wrapping up our work week, here is our Friday ‘Shelfie Feature’. We catch up with a vibrant lady, Dr Marise Subrayan, one of the few female gynaecologists based in Durban. She runs her own practice, Subrayan Obstetrics and Gynaecology, based at Netcare St. Augustine’s Hospital. She is also a race ambassador in the 2024 SPAR Women’s 10/5km Challenge.
Fun Friday fact – Readers have a 2.5 times reduced risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
This is what she shared with us…
What do you love about reading?
Reading is the most beautiful method of self-expression. Despite reading the same book, each person creates a completely different magical world. There’s no competition at all, you’re just being authentic in make believe world that’s perfectly designed just for you
What was your favourite book last year?
The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese. The accurate descriptions of medical conditions and surgical procedures were so comforting for a surgeon to read. It’s a heartbreaking and inspiring book that definitely deserves a read.
A second book that I loved was Tribe of Mentors by Timothy Feriss. A compilation of life advice from 100 successful people from diverse backgrounds. My favourite part was learning which advice to not follow, instead of what advice to follow.
What are you reading at the moment?
The Prophet and the Idiot by Jonas Jonasson. It’s a quirky novel about an unlikely trio forced together for 12 days before the end of the world. Foodies will absolutely love it!
