Photographed in rehearsal yesterday ahead of their performance this afternoon (Friday) at the Courtyard Theatre at DUT at 3.30pm are the Dubious Gurus – a loose collective of like-minded Durban performers: Daniel Sheldon on horn and percussion; Logan Byrne on upright bass; spoken word artist Iain ‘Ewok’ Robinson and Anton Cawthorn-Blazeby on violin.
With Dubious Gurus, Ewok returns to some of his earliest lyrical and musical roots, bringing spoken word into conversation with the improvisatory energy and textures of a jazz – hip hop fusion.
The event is the final leg of Drama Backstage in Action festival which has transformed the Courtyard Theatre at DUT into an active teaching, production and performance environment in which DUT Higher Certificate students work alongside experienced theatre practitioners in a series of productions.
Dubious Gurus will be at the Courtyard theatre / DUT Ritson Campus at DUT today / Friday at 3.30. Public are welcome. Tickets are at the door prior to the performance.
