Psalms Of Suffering And Hope

An ecumenical service of music and readings
Psalms of Suffering and Hope
St James Church: Venice Road, Windermere: Sun 14 Sept at 5pm
The leadership of the Denis Hurley Centre are remembering their founder, Paddy Kearney, in a special sunset service: Psalms of Suffering and Hope at St James Church in Venice Road on Sunday 14 September at 5pm featuring the world premiere of new work by organist Melvin Peters.
“It is exactly 40 years ago since Paddy Kearney was detained without trail. While in jail, he drew great comfort from reading the Psalms, considers Dr Raymond Perrier of the DHC. “We pray for all those who are suffering at this time,”
Music will be an integral part of the ecumenical service. Organists from St James (John Ward) and from St Paul’s (Melvin Peters) will be leading this. One of the highlights of the service is the world premiere of a new work especially written by Melvin Peters, who worked very closely with Paddy for many years.
The service will include readings, sung choral pieces and also a modern-day Psalm in Zulu by Steel the Poet.
Entry is free, and all are welcome.
(Free guarded parking on Sir Arthur Road and Venice Road.)
