King Edward Claim Seventh Spot

King Edward High School
Southern KZN Regional Winner – Sixth (2016, 2017), Seventh (2018), Eighth (2015)
In their fourth appearance at the SPAR KZN School Girls’ Hockey Challenge, King Edward High School concluded their sterling efforts with a seventh place at the Grand Finals.
In their first two games, they met hockey giants St Anne’s followed by St Mary’s. They went down 4 nil to St Anne’s and 5 nil down to St Mary’s. After the defeats, the team dusted themselves off and were able to play their style of hockey, defeating Greytown 4 nil and then in a close fought game against Amanzimtoti marginally going down 1 nil ending fourth in the pool.
On the second day, they met Our Lady of Fatima from Durban North in the cross-pool playoffs and like the two Saints games, were unable to get into their stride and went down 6 nil. In the seventh place playoff, they again met Amanzimtoti where the scoreline went 2-1 to KEHS. Azisa Cokota and Kukhona Ndunndun were the players that netted their teams two goals.
Head coach for King Edward High School, Dr Deidre Duminy said, “Although KEHS finished in 7th place, I’m happy with what we accomplished. Our girls are young with most of them Grade 10 and younger. We see the SPAR tournament as an incredible opportunity to improve our skills and to expose our girls to some of the best hockey players, certainly in Natal. As always, SPAR and St Mary’s did great job at making it a spectacularly successful weekend.”
