Durban South Regional Winner – Eighth (2018), Tenth (2015, 2016, 2017)
In their fourth appearance, Amanzimtoti High School notched up their best result at the Grand Finals of the SPAR KZN School Girls’ Hockey, finishing eighth.
In the three previous appearances, the team representing the Durban South Regional ended their Grand Finals tenth overall. Starting off their weekend, they meet newcomers Greytown High School, with the game ending in a nil all draw. The next two games of the day were against hockey giants, St Anne’s College and St Mary’s DSG with both of the results ending in a loss of 4 nil for Toti. The final game was against travelling team, King Edward High School from Matatiele, in a closely contested encounter, they went 1 nil up.
Taking on a feisty Ferrum High School from Newcastle in the cross-pool playoff, Toti lost marginally by 1 goal to nil. In the positional game, they met for the second time, King Edward High School where the girls from Matat stepped up a gear, going 2-1 up against the Toti side.
Chatting about the weekend, Coach for Toti, Chris Clarke said, “An incredible performance by my girls. After a few tough years in the final round we managed to finally get some points on the board and goals on the sheet. We are very proud to have finished 8th in such a wonderfully run event. We would also just like to thank everyone involved for all their work as well as SPAR for sponsoring the event.”
Captain for Toti, Michaela Quintal shared, “It was a really enjoyable weekend with some great hockey played. It was such an incredible tournament to end off my last few games of my high school hockey career. My team played their hearts out, and it definitely got us further than the previous years before.”
