A Sixth For In Form Ferrum

Ferrum High School
Northern KZN Regional Winner – Fifth (2012, 2015), Sixth (2011, 2018), Ninth (2017), Tenth (2013, 2014)
Making their seventh appearance at the Grand Finals of the SPAR KZN School Girls’ Hockey Challenge, Ferrum High School put on a sterling effort to place sixth overall.
In their first pool game, Ferrum went up against Felixton College from Richards Bay. In their final three pool games they took on Durban schools that all perfect their game on astro, meeting hockey giants, Durban Girls College in their second game and holding them to a 2 nil loss, where they defended superbly in the College attack. Our Lady of Fatima only managed to get 1 goal in. The final pool game against Epworth School from Pietermaritzburg was again a solid display of Ferrum’s grit with the girls only allowing Epworth 2 goals in.
Special mention to Jolene Mollentze, keeper for Ferrum who put her body on the line a number of times. In the cross-pool playoff, they took on Amanzimtoti High School and defeated them 1 nil taking the Newcastle team into the positional game for fifth place.
Here they took on Fatima for the second time this tournament, and in similar fashion, the local team managed to get 1 up against the travelling team.
Coach for Ferrum High School, Hannie Strydom, “What a privilege to be a part of another SPAR KZN Grand Final. The girls enjoyed it very much and we are very proud of them. Ferrum had a very good season this year and to claim sixth position in this final is a huge achievement. Thank you to all sponsors and all people involved, especially SPAR KZN for putting on this tournament.
