Sycamore Academy of Rock afternoon showcase at Glenwood Village Centre on Saturday 15 March
International Teach Music Week: 17 – 23 March
Glenwood Village Centre honours Global Teach Music Week by inviting teachers of Sycamore Academy of Rock to showcase their talents at Glenwood Village Centre on Saturday afternoon, 15 March.
International Teach Music Week is observed every year during the third week of March all around the world. This year, it takes place from March 17 to 23. The week encourages music lovers, musicians, and music schools to take up new students and introduce them to the world of music.
Teachers will be given the opportunity to perform during the course of the afternoon, from 2pm until 4pm.
The academy offers weekly in-person music lessons for children and adults wanting to learn to play guitar / bass guitar; keyboard / piano; violin; drums and vocals. The academy is open to the public every Tuesday evening for lessons from 5 until 7pm. Part of the mission of the academy is to provide public platforms for their pupils to gain performance experience.
Sycamore Rock Academy provides a creative space for performers and aspirant players to hone their music skills – especially those keen to play rock and contemporary music styles in particular.
Glenwood Village, which is deeply rooted in the community they serve, has made the centre’s atrium available to them on Saturday afternoon, 15 March, for teachers to showcase the breath of skills and depth of talent at the Academy, for shoppers to enjoy.
Sycamore Academy prides itself with the quality of teachers on their staff – all active performers in their own right. Working at the Academy are Roland Fischer (guitar, bass, electric); Steve Du Plessis (drums); Giselle Human (violin) and Christopher Kistnasamy (piano, keyboard).
Glenwood Village Centre, which is currently undergoing a revamp with a new logo, freshly painted walls, newly landscaped flower beds, and improved guarded parking, has a strong focus of community support. They are excited to collaborate with Sycamore Rock Academy.
“Our Centre supports Glenwood initiatives,” says centre manager Steve King. “Especially those which add value to the neighbourhood. We support and encourage the development of music: one of our anchor tenants being Bothners specialist music store, and we regularly host live musicians. When we read about International Teach Music Week, we invited the Sycamore Academy to come along to encourage as many people as possible to learn an instrument,” he said.
Sycamore Rock Academy is part of the Sycamore Church and School Campus based in Sycamore Road, Glenwood: close to Glenwood Bakery; Deodar Police Station and Citadel Church.
Both Glenwood Centre and Sycamore campus offer safe, off-road parking.
