Consistent, Grantleigh make their third appearance.

Representing the Northern Coastal Regional Winner at the SPAR KZN School Girls Hockey Challenge, Grantleigh College were eager to better their two previous results of eighth in the 2011 and 2016 regionals.
In their first pool game, they met newcomers St John’s DSG from Pietermaritzburg. In a fine display of skills, St John’s managed to knock in 3 goals, with Grantleigh not being able to penetrate the newcomers defence. Their next game was up against the ‘Giant Slayers’ from King Edward High School in Matatiele, KEHS managed to stay two goals clear of Grantleigh, with the scoreline on 3-1. Grantleigh then went on to meet Amanzimtoti High School in their third round of pool games, and with both teams determined to win, neither were able to break the others defences. In the final game on Saturday, Grantleigh took on Durban Girls’ College. College, the only team to have made an appearance at every Grand Finals had a challenging day and were more determined than ever to get back on the right foot. Grantleigh was on the receiving end of a brutal surge from College, with the final score being 5-0 in favour of the Durban school.
In the final classification games, Grantleigh met Our Lady of Fatima from Durban North. Grantleigh held strong against Fatima, with only 1 goal on the board, but then Fatima charged onwards and scored, dominating possession in the second half and knocked in a further two goals.
In the seventh playoff, Grantleigh met Wartburg. After a monumental battle on the turf, the scoreline remained unchanged with no goals being netted. The game progressed to a penalty shootout. Wartburg, seemingly more at home at the formidable P spot got 2 of their 3 attempts past Sajana Nagessur standing boldly in goals. Grantleigh, only managing to slot in an individual attempt, and having to settle for their third eighth position in the SPAR KZN School Girls Hockey Challenge.
