Boo…. If You’ve Got It, Haunt It!

Halloween Recycled Plastic Art Workshop
Glenwood Village Centre:
Saturday 11 Oct: 9am until 1.30pm
Respected and much awarded crafters, Robin Opperman and Ujala Sewpersad, from Umcebo Design are excited to be holding a Michaelmas holiday, creative arts workshop at Glenwood Village Centre teaching participants to make decorative skeletons out of plastic milk cartons, on Saturday 11 October from 9am until 1.30pm.
Umcebo Design are known for teaching adults and children how to make art from recycled and found materials – encouraging people to be creative while repurposing materials otherwise destined for landfill. The team of Glenwood Village share the philosophy of Umcebo Design and are always happy to make spaces available to them in order to run art workshops.
Following the success of their paper rose making workshop in June, they are once more running a holiday workshop for people keen to get into the “spirit” of Halloween – a holiday observed on October 31 and noted for its pagan and religious roots and secular traditions.
In much of North America and Europe observance of Halloween is largely nonreligious, celebrated with parties, spooky costumes, jack o lanterns, pumpkin carvings, trick-or-treating, wearing scary costumes and the giving of candy are some of the time-honoured traditions of Halloween. In recent years South Africans have begun to celebrate Halloween.
It is fun to learn to make your own decorations – be in ghosts from paper cups; spiders from pipe cleaners or bats from egg boxes. Umcebo will be suggesting some fun projects to create with friends, family and class-mates ahead of October 31. Participants will be making skeletons from plastic milk cartons during the workshop.
As you work on your craft, enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee and a muffin, with compliments of Glenwood SuperSPAR.
The workshop fee is R100, and all necessary materials will be provided. For planning purposes, booking is essential.
“No bones about it – I just love Halloween!”
