Our Lady of Fatima
Durban North Regional Winner – Fifth (2011, 2017, 2018)
Notching up their third fifth place, Our Lady of Fatima fought hard at the Grand Finals of the SPAR KZN School Girls’ Hockey Challenge.
Jordyn Beegte netted the only goal in the fifth place playoff against Ferrum High School from Newcastle. The teams’ day started off with a pounding 6 nil win against King Edward High School in the cross-pool playoff.
Coach for Fatima, Jacinta Jubb stated, “The Fatima team had a relatively up and down weekend in terms of results but overall displayed some top quality hockey. The girls stuck together as a team and worked hard every game until the final whistle went.”
Meeting Durban Girls’ College in their first game, Fatima played superbly defending well, with only one goal going the way for College. Their next game was against Epworth making their first appearance. The scoreline went 1 nil to the Pietermaritzburg team. Fatima then took on Felixton College from Richards Bay and Ferrum High School from Newcastle, with both games going well for Fatima, with a 1 nil win in both games.
“We struggled to find the back board on day one, but the flood gates opened for us on the second day and we came away with a final placement of 5th place. Overall the girls really played well throughout the weekend, and improved game by game.”
Manager for Fatima, Caroline Lynch said, As always the SPAR Regional hockey finals proved to be a great tournament – a weekend of great school girls Hockey from teams all throughout KZN with the Fatima team just losing out on a top 4 placing but happy with fifth overall out of the top ten teams.”
