5th Season Band @ The Jazzy Rainbow

Friday 23rd March
This performance by the 5th Season Band at The Jazzy Rainbow is part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit which aims to foster a love and support for live music in our communities, as well as anchor small and medium sized venues in urban and rural Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape.
Durban’s jazz lounge, The Jazzy Rainbow, in association with Concerts SA, launched its first straight jazz programme on the eve of Heritage Day in September 2016 and continues to follow up with the same concept. “#JazzyStraightAhead is about introducing regular, live, straight jazz concerts to our city in order to help keep the music alive,” says Oliver-Rene Haas.
5th Season was established organically with a humble beginning and big aspirations. The band members met at the acclaimed University of KwaZulu-Natal Department of Music where they became known as The 5th Season. The collective operates often as a trio and, in some instances, a quartet and quintet, depending on the size of the performance.
The band plays a wide range of well-known jazz standards and contemporary melodies, as well as proudly South African Jazz favourites. Whilst adding in their own flavour and interpretation they still maintain the South African sound which is a testimony of their heritage.
They completed their debut Album “Symmetry” and launched it in 2015.
5th Season has performed on many stages in the country like the Grahams Town National Arts Festival and many other relevant places in South Africa.
5th Season are Janice Joseph – vocals, Brayden Hore – bass, Devon Hore – drums and Mthunzi Mchunu- guitar.
