Pianist Mthobisi Mthalane has performed on The Rainbow stage many times before and most recently with guitarist Vusi Mkhize’s band in January. At that performance, we were reminded that there has been a long-standing promise that he will eventually get to present his own music at The Rainbow.
Thanks to the ongoing support of Concerts SA, we finally get a chance to fulfil that promise.
Joining Mthalane will be another stalwart performer of The Rainbow’s music program, bassist Mandla Zikalala and, of course, Mkhize will be on guitar. Mzamo Zungu will be on drums and handling vocals will be Siya Zuma and Sfiso Cele.
Saturday is a normal trading day and The Rainbow will be open as usual from 10am. People specifically wanting to attend the music are advised to arrive from 3pm, with the live performance commencing at 4pm and over by 6pm.
People travelling in their own private vehicles are requested to notify the team at The Rainbow on 031 702 9161 that they will be attending so that we are aware of parking requirements.

Concerts SA is a joint South African/Norwegian project housed under the auspices of the Stakeholder Hub within The SAMRO Foundation; it receives financial, administrative and technical support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SAMRO and Concerts Norway. By engaging with musicians, promoters, venue owners and audiences, the project aims to stimulate live music in South Africa by finding and implementing ways to create regular, sustainable performance platforms. Concerts SA also aims to develop an interest in and appreciation of live music by showcasing music performances and conducting workshops at schools.
