Budding double bass player, Hlakanipho Xolo, was among the musicians and singers who spent the weekend rehearsing for a very special fund-raising concert taking place this Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm at the Durban Music School, Play Your Part Gala Performance. Conducted by Russel Guy Scott with the KZN Youth Wind Band, Clermont Community Choir, Voices of Angels Children’s Choir, St. John’s Diocesan School for Girls Marimba Band, members of the KZN Philharmonic, five vocal soloists: Nonzwakazi, Nana Mkhize, Nozuko Teto, Andile Dlamini and Smanga Cebekhulu, and His Majesty’s Praise Singer, the prolific historian and poet, BM Mdletshe. The concert features two new works by Warren Bessey honouring significant women of Zulu royal history, Queen Nandi and Princess Mkabayi.
The concert is a fund-raiser for the KZN Youth Wind Band Development Trust, and ticket holders can win a four-night cruise holiday on the MSC Orchestra visiting the Pomene in Mozambique for two adults, valued at R18,000.
