Wrapping It Up In Tenth Spot For Greytown

Greytown High School travelled to the Grand Finals of the SPAR KZN School Girls’ Hockey Challenge for the first time and had an incredible time, placing tenth overall.
Meeting the defending champs in the very first game of the tournament, the team can hold their heads high after a brave performance, with Saints knocking in 4 goals. They met Amanzimtoti in their second game and managed to hold them to a nil all draw, with the game flowing from end to end. Their final two pool games were against King Edward High School from Matatiele and St Anne’s College from Hilton, both games had a 4 nil result against Greytown.
Finishing fifth in the pool game, they took on Felixton College in the cross-pool game. Aphiwe Nene, who was celebrating her 17th birthday on Sunday, was in the right spot at the right time and knocked in two magical goals for Felixton, to Bandile Masikane’s 1 goal for Greytown. Final score was 2-1, earning Greytown tenth place in KZN tournament.
Coach for Greytown High School, Sara Wheeler said, “A fantastic opportunity for a newcomer team. The tournament was very enjoyable. Even finishing tenth we felt like champions. A huge thumbs up to the organisers and sponsors.”
