Waitrons’ Race – It’s Cool to Serve!

uMhlanga Summer Festival, 2018
The uMhlanga Summer Festival 2018
uMhlanga: 14 – 23 December
The new kid on the block this year, the first wacky ‘Waitronathon’ is one of the feature events taking place on Sunday 23 December during the annual uMhlanga Summer Festival.
On 23 December waitrons from participating uMhlanga restaurants and hotels will make their way to the beach and take part in an entertaining obstacle race. Dressed in branded waitron uniforms and carrying trays with cocktails, the waitrons will have to negotiate a variety of hurdles – mini Olympics style – without spilling their drinks!
Kevin Ellis, the festival’s beach host and entertainer, will conduct proceedings. Restaurants and hotels can enter as many waitrons as they want. Cash prizes for the winners are up for grabs. The prizes consists of R1,000 in cash for first place, R500 for second, R300 for third; a free half-page advert for your restaurant in the 2019 uMhlanga Tourism Visitor’s Guide; free mentions on all uMhlanga Tourism’s social media channels for your restaurant / hotel restaurant leading up to and after the event; the distribution of your restaurant menu to the 500+ B&B / guesthouses / hotels on the uMhlanga Tourism database.
Participating waitrons should head down to Main Beach in front of the Millennium Stage on 23 December. Registration is at 10am to 10.30am, the race at 10.45am. After the big people have run their race, little ones will get to participate in a mini Olympics from about 12pm.
Participating restaurants can indicate their interest on the uMhlanga Tourism Facebook event page (https://www.facebook.com/UmhlangaTourism/).
The annual uMhlanga Summer Festival brings a myriad family-centred holiday activities to uMhlanga for the 2018 festive season for visitors and locals alike, from 14 – 23 December.
Understanding that the season is about goodwill, family and community, the theme for this year’s festival is It’s Cool to Care – with all aspects of the season aimed at caring for people and the planet.
