Miss uMhlanga 2018 Is A Winner

uMhlanga Main Beach was hot and happening on Monday 17 December when dozens of beautiful girls took part in the tenth Miss uMhlanga Beauty pageant.
With the ocean and sand as a backdrop, and a breeze to cool the 30-degree sunshine, the competition was fun and relaxed. Beachgoers pulled up their deckchairs and enjoyed watching the young ladies who strutted past to the loud music. Many fresh-faced, natural beauties made the judges’ decision of first, second and third places extremely difficult. Other fun prizes awarded were: Miss Most Potential, Miss Photogenic, Mrs uMhlanga (Mom) and Miss Best Groomed.
The winners were: 1st Ruchelle Debruin (17 years); 2nd Demmi Meek (20 years) and 3rd Tina Nkangane (23 years)
The lovely atmosphere and smooth running was due in large part to pageant co-ordinator and compere, Kevin Ellis. No stranger to the ramp, Kevin Ellis has been part of this event since its beginning. He is renowned in Durban for a multitude of talents: eventor, creative, choreographer, teacher and stylist. He scouted world famous Victoria Secret model Candice Swanepoel (one of Forbes’ highest paid models in the world), and Genevieve Morton, FHM’s sexiest woman in the world (now in Hollywood) and is a line dance champ.
Adding their own glamour to the group of lovely ladies on stage were two of the judges, Neenã Bezuidenhout (currently Jewel of the World 2018), and Natisha Makka (a Mrs S.A. Finalist, representing KZN). Peter Rose, chairman of uMhlanga Tourism for the last 14 years, was the third judge.
Thanks to the Department of Arts and Culture, the Linda Vargas Flamenco Dance Company gave a wonderful display of Spanish dancing before proceedings got under way.
Winners walked away with prizes valued at over R20,000 in total. Best of all, the entry fee of R150 per entrant will be used to purchase much-needed items for Girls and Boys Town, an organisation in nearby Verulam that cares for teen children. With 37 entrants the competition garnered a total of R5,550 for Girls and Boys Town. It really is Cool to Care!
