Trumpeter Lungani Gumede @ The Rainbow

Saturday 15 June
Rainbow Restaurant and Concerts SA present the Lungani Gumede Quintet in Concert- this Saturday, 15 June.
We might have seen the last of The Rainbow’s legendary Sunday afternoon concerts for a while but we are blessed to have trumpeter Lungani Gumede leading a quintet of some of Durban’s finest onto The Rainbow stage at 4pm this Saturday, on Youth Day weekend.
Gumede, also a composer, vocalist and arranger, hails from Hammarsdale so will be a popular choice with the Rainbow regulars, given how deep the Rainbow’s roots are in this community. Gumede’s s music is a reflection of his musical history. It entails the sentiments of Afro Jazz, emotions of West Africa and the honesty of Maskandi. He grew up on the township of Mpumalanga, Hammersdale and currently still lives there (not far from Seaman’s Corner). He studied under the guidance of a classical trumpet player at the University of KwaZulu Natal. After his studies he explored the arts around Durban by playing in various bands. Gumede then joining the IlLIMA band in which he spent four years. He has shared the stage with the likes of Themba Mkhize, Gloria Bosman and Sipho Gumede. Joining him this time will be Cebo Ngema on guitar, Sbu Zondi on drums, Dalisu Ndlazi on bass and Sanele Phakathi on keys.
