The Gold Tour brings Samthing Soweto to music stages across the country

In association with Concerts SA, The Plat4rm presents Samthing Soweto: The Gold Tour. After sold out shows at the Soweto Theatre and The Orbit, Soweto-born singer and songwriter Samthing Soweto begins his long-awaited tour.
The Gold Tour will lead Samthing Soweto to Durban, Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown between June and July. These shows will allow the audience to engage with some of the ideas he has been preparing and developing towards his performances at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. He will be joined on stage by Ntsikelelo Matshatshe on guitar, Bafana Mlangeni on keys, and Mduduzi Mathebula on bass.
Samkelo Lelethu Mdolomba – also known as Samthing Soweto – started his career as one of the founding members of the South African a cappella group The Soil. The group released their multi-platinum, self-titled debut album in 2011 and Samthing Soweto- no longer part of the group –is however credited for his outstanding vocal appearance, co-writing, composing and producing of 8 of 11 songs.

His first solo project was an independently released EP titled This n’ That without tempo, which featured a tribute to Miriam Makeba titled Peace n’ Lovely Things. He is also known for his appearance as front man for nu-jazz band The Fridge, under record label Motif Records. The Fridge disbanded in 2015 due to two members of the trio relocating.
Samthing Soweto also appears as collaborator and producer on the poetry album I Am Not Going Back to the Township, released in 2013 by Makafula Vilakazi. He also appeared on several features including the single Broke People with Tumi Molekane, as well as Kabomo’s album All Things Grey on the song titled Things We Cannot Hide.
In 2014 Samthing Soweto appeared as solo act at the Joy of Jazz Festival. In the same year he also earned himself a spot at the Rocking the Daises Festival. Samthing Soweto’s music has featured on South African television shows and films such as Isidingo, Big Brother Mzansi, the title sequence of Rhythm City and the soundtrack of the movie Othello Burning.
In 2015 he appeared on Coke Studios alongside international sensation Spoek Mathambo and Shane Cooper (a.k.a. Card on Spokes). His 2016 releases include Thanda Wena and Ubhukhazikhazi.
The Durban leg of Samthing Soweto´s Gold Tour is supported by Concerts SA through the Music Mobility Fund, a funding mechanism which offers opportunities for South African musicians to undertake live music tours.
