Review Of Shall We Dance by Chris Sutton

The 26th edition of Shall we Dance, hosted by ECR’s Damon Beard, produced and directed by Neville Letard and Caryl Cusens, is another bumper edition, hosted by the Playhouse which maintains its classic charm despite the slow onset of urban decay that is creeping over Durban’s City precinct.
The lineup is an eclectic one, featuring everything from Ballroom, Hip Hop to belly dancing.
Standouts are Danish 10 Dance Champions, Nikolai Lund and Marta Kocik, who simply ooze grace on stage. An adrenalin rush is provided Gerhard van Rooyen and Ecatarina Jeleznii who perform some jaw dropping Exhibition Dance moves.
A great initiative is the Young Dancer’s Project which provides youngsters with a chance to perform on stage. Some of them radiate confidence. Self confidence must be one of the most important qualities that children and young adluts need to develop. Like sailing, dance provides our youth with so many life skills that will assist them on their life journeys.
Funny moment – Damon Beard being shown up by the young ballroom dancers when attempting “The Floss”.
Friday night’s house was packed, the bar staff attentive, the tuck shop dispensed good cappacino’s – all in all a great evening of entertainment.
Thanks to Illa and Sophie at Pubmatters for the tickets !
Go to the “Whats On” section of their website to see what else is on in Durban – you will be surprised at how much there is to do out there !
