Honouring Our War Heroes This Armistice Day

Final concert in the KZNPO 2023 Spring
Symphony 40th Anniversary Season
Playhouse Opera: Thursday 9 Nov 2023, 7pm.
American maestro Robert Moody photographed in the Durban Maritime Museum with Durban’s own Lady in White, Perla Siedle Gibson, South African soprano and artist, who was a wartime national South African treasure. Born in Durban in 1888, she would sing to convoys of troopships, merchant ships and fighting vessels visiting Durban harbour during the Second World War.
The final concert in the KZN Philharmonic 2023 Spring Symphony 40th Anniversary Season will also have a Poppy Day focus. The orchestra will all be wearing poppies to acknowledge Remembrance Day on 11 November. SA Legion will be selling poppies in the Playhouse foyer.
Moody has curated a beautiful programme for Thursday’s final KZN Philharmonic Spring Symphony season concert, comprising Dvořák’s symphonic poem Mein Heim (My Home) and Sir Edward Elgar’s nostalgic Cello Concerto. Composed just after the First World War, it will be performed by Canadian cellist Bryan Cheng. The soaring strains of the Sibelius Fifth Symphony bring the curtain down on a high note.
All too soon, the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra wraps up its four-week Spring World Symphony Season with a final concert on Thursday 9 November in the Playhouse Opera, commencing at 7pm, with an open rehearsal at 10am. Book at Quicket.
