Heritage Day Concert
With the Melvin Peters Quartet and friends
St Thomas Church, Berea: Mon 25 Sept at 11.30am
St Thomas Anglican Church on the Berea will be hosting a Heritage Day Concert on Monday, 25 September at 11.30am featuring the Melvin Peters Quartet, the RSCM Singers, and special guest from Germany, pianist / organist, Tim Guenther.
Peters has created a varied and interesting programme covering a wide range of music genres and traditions – especially for Heritage Day – including western classical, jazz, choral and African music.
Melvin Peters, who is well known to Durban audiences will perform a few American and South African jazz standards with his quartet. Also included in the programme will be a few of his original compositions.
Tim Guenther, who hails from Bremen, will perform a few classical pieces on the piano and organ. He will also conduct the Royal Schools of Church Music (RSCM) Singers, an ad-hoc choir comprising choristers from various churches. The Kwa-Zulu Natal branch of the RSCM is an organization which has a strong focus on traditional choral music. Its membership is drawn from several church denominations, and it continues to be active in the province. Tim Guenther appears under the auspices of the Bremen-Durban sister cities partnership, which was initiated in 2011.
The ticket prices are R100, and R70 for pensioners and scholars. The tickets may be purchased at the door on the day of the concert. Secure parking is available on the church grounds, as well as at Musgrave Centre. For further information as well as bookings, please contact Babitha Haynes on 084 591 1856.
