KZNPO 2018 Summer Season
Thursday: Playhouse Opera: 1 March
After a glorious opening concert of the Word Symphony Series Summer Season last week, during which Russian music was in the spotlight, this week the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra is celebrating the music of France with a programme of beautiful French classics featuring pieces by Gabriel Fauré; Cécile Chaminade, François Borne / Georges Bizet, Claude Debussy and César Franck.
Soloist this week is award winning South African flautist, Liesl Stoltz playing two short works for flute and orchestra.
Getting inspired for this week’s concert, conductor, Canadian-Caribbean conductor Kwamé Ryan, poses alongside the mini Eiffel Tower in the garden of the Alliance Francaise de Durban – cultural ambassadors and proud campaigners for all things French, with the French national flag in the background.
