A Youthful Diversion…

Acknowledging that the focus this week is on young people with Youth Day on Saturday, guest conductor Brandon Philips and Russian cello player, Alexander Buzlov – both of whom work extensively with young people – enjoyed the sun between rehearsals and detoured via the beachfront skateboard park.
Brandon Phillips is the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Cape Town Youth Orchestra and is resident conductor of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, and was awarded by Western Cape Minister of Arts and Culture Ivan Meyer for his work with young people. Moscow-born Alexander Buzlov tutors students at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and continues his solo career.
Phillips will be on the podium on Thursday (14 June) in the Playhouse Opera, conducting the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra for the second concert in the orchestra’s four week Winter Symphony Season during which Alexander Buzlov takes the spotlight to perform Édouard Lalo’s Cello Concerto.
