Friday 15 March
This performance by Zintle Msane at The Jazzy Rainbow is part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit which aims to foster a love and support for live music in our communities, as well as anchor small and medium sized venues in urban and rural Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape.
Durban’s jazz lounge, The Jazzy Rainbow, in association with Concerts SA, launched its first straight jazz programme on the eve of Heritage Day in September 2016 and continues to follow up with the same concept. “#JazzyStraightAhead is about introducing regular, live, straight jazz concerts to our city in order to help keep the music alive,” says Oliver-Rene Haas.
Zintle Msane, born in Empangeni in KwaZulu-Natal, is a young, talented songstress and adept saxophonist. She began her music journey at a tender age at Umlazi Comtech high school, led by Xolani Hlongwa who has produced artists such as Sanele Phakathi, Dalisu Ndlazi, Neo Dube and many more. She is continuing her music studies at Howard College UKZN, studying saxophone under Salim Washington.
Zintle has performed at multiple Jazz festivals- Umlazi Jazz Festival, Imbokodo Jazz Festival and more. She also appeared at the Jazz Expression and has sung on Ukhozi FM and Khaya FM. She had the privilege to work with Africa Mkhize and the Big Band for the Tribute to Bheki Mseleku, as well as Salim Washington, Philani Ngidi, The Afro Divas, Xolisa Dlamini, Burton Naidoo and others. She draws inspiration from many of her favorite vocalists, such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Jazzmeia Horn, Anita O’day and Diana Reeves. Her favourite saxophonists are John Coltrane, Michael Brecker, Dexter Gordon and Kirk Whalum.
