The Midlands Trio: Maggie Deppe (Oboe) Charl van der Merwe (Bassoon) Ilse Myburgh (Piano) will perform in the next Friends of Music concert at the Durban Jewish Centre on 19 September at 3pm.
The concert will feature a carefully chosen eclectic and varied programme and will include two French trios especially composed for oboe, piano and bassoon – one by the prolific composer and pianist, Francis Poulenc and the other by 19th Century early Romantic oboist and composer, Henri Brod.
Maggie Deppe is a piano and oboe tutor at the Deutsche Schule Durban and has spent lockdown studying church music in Halle, Germany. Ilse Myburgh studied piano under Prof Joseph Stanford and achieved a Master’s in Music (Chamber Music). She recently settled in Hilton teaching piano at Epworth and Hilton Schools. Charl van der Merwe is principal Bassoonist of the KZN Philharmonic.
Programme features: Georg Fredrick Handel: Sonata for Oboe and Basso Continuo; Camille Saint- Saens: Sonata for Bassoon and Piano; Henri Brod: Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano; Edwin Randel: Für Ilse; Paul Hindemith: Bassoon Sonata; John Walton: Three pieces for Oboe and Piano; Francis Poulenc: Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano.
