The maestro and tomorrow’s stars: South African-born conductor Conrad van Alphen is the conductor for the second and final KZN Philharmonic concert tonight (Thursday 26 June at 7pm). He is pictured with three members of the KZN Youth Orchestra, all pupils at Durban Girls College. Left to right: Serena Nip (13 – cello); Nonjabulo Ndlovu (15 – violin) and Sayuri Mahabeer (13 – violin). The KZN Youth Orchestra will be opening the concert this evening.
Acclaimed Russian virtuoso Andrey Baranov on violin takes on the challenges of Lalo’s exotic Symphonie Espagnole – evoking the sights and sounds of Spain. The programme ends with another much-loved classic. Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony – known as his Pastoral symphony.
