KZNPO Summer Season
Durban City Hall – Thurs 7 March at 7.30pm
Tickets @ Computicket
The sound of bells is a motif to be explored during Thursday evening’s final concert in the 2019 Summer Symphony Season (Thursday 7 March) of glorious music in Durban City Hall by the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Associate Guest Conductor Daniel Boico featuring one of our generation’s greatest pianists Olga Kern who is from a family of musicians with direct links to Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff. She will be performing Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor. On the programme is Antonín Dvořák’s rarely performed Symphony No 1 in C minor which references the bells in Zlonice, a market town in the Czech Republic where Dvořák lived as a student. The bells rang on and every hour keeping the young composer awake at night.
Pictured at the historic Angelus school bell at Maris Stella School is Sisa Mgauli a fellow first violinist with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra who will be performing in tonight’s concert.
