In association with Concerts SA and Seaman’s Corner, iSupport Music Business presents pianist and vocalist Sanele Phakathi live in Hammarsdale. Phakathi is set to hit the stage with his adult contemporary sounds at Seaman’s Corner on 30 December from 7pm till late. Phakathi and his band will bring the Hammarsdale audience a mixture of original music coupled with Phakathi’s personal and soulful renditions of well-known covers, which are sure to get Jazz and soul music lovers moving to the music. Joining the singer and pianist on stage will be Zibusiso Makhathini on keys, Dalisu Ndlazi on bass and Menzi Mkhize on drums.
Phakathi started playing the piano at the age of 17 and his personal sound bears reference to yesteryear soul and jazz legends whom he refers to as his musical inspirations- jazz legends such as George Benson, Net King Cole, Al Jarreau and Bheki Mseleku, whilst on the soul side he credits Frank McComb, Stevie Wonder, Musiq Soulchild and Donny Hathaway as his inspirations.
Phakathi is widely known for playing the piano/keys for SA’s well-known and celebrated jazz musicians Mbuso Mbusuyeza Khoza, Xolisa Roro Gqoli-Dlamini, Nomfundo Xaluva and Philani Ngidi Brian Thusi, Zakes Bantwini, Linda Sikhakhane, Zoë Modiga and Salim Washington to name a few.
This concert is part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit that aims to foster a love and support for live music in our communities, as well as anchor small and medium sized venues in urban and rural Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape. Concerts SA is a joint South African/Norwegian live music development project housed within the SAMRO Foundation. Concerts SA receives financial, administrative and technical support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SAMRO, the SAMRO Foundation and Concerts Norway. Working with musicians, promoters, venue owners and audiences, and providing support to the sector through research and skills development for music professionals, the project aims to build a vibrant and viable live music circuit in southern Africa. It also aims to develop an interest in and appreciation of live music by showcasing music performances and conducting workshops at schools.
