This Sunday, 13 November is the turn of Sheila Da Bluenote – singer, composer, actress, and dancer. She started her career in 1996 as a gospel singer. She worked with Lucky & friends and Clermont Merry Singers. She moved to Bat Center in Durban where she was part of a programme called Artist in Action Residency. She studied composition, ensemble, music theory, voice, and music business. She also learned under Jazz legend “Theo Bophela”, where she was advancing herself in music theory. Sheila is now in studio recording her debut album. In 2008, she started her solo career under the name Sheila Da Bluenote. This concert celebrates her brand-new EP, Infinite Thoughts which was launched last month.
Next Sunday, 20 November, The Band Milkyway Galaxy will be in the spotlight. They were formed in 2011 by Mzamo Zungu (drums) Bonga Xulu (bass guitar) Sbonelo Nxumalo (keyboard) and Phumeza Nkosi, “Senzi” (vocalist). The band sound draws from several genre jazz, pop, african music and rock. Their sound is fresh and refreshing.
Rorke and Red Robyn wrap up the CSA live spring music season on Sunday 27 November. Red Robyn excites the alternative music scene as a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and producer. Red Robyn’s music engages a wide variety of context, style and genre from her solo work that can be classified as indie folk soul to her collaborations that range from house to alt pop. She is an electric performer with a background in theatre and dance.
She will perform with Rorke Hunter who has been performing across South Africa for the last 10 years as a solo artist with a focus on meaningful collaboration. The Durban-bred musician cut his teeth on blues, but never misses a chance to entertain and perform his renditions of popular music as well as his catalogue. Recently, Rorke Hunter has been independently crafting his new sound for his upcoming EP with an emphasis on songwriting and production. Rorke’s style is eclectic, spanning a variety of genres, giving him the ability to connect with many different audiences.
