St John and Lotus FM collaborate for World Sight Day 2023

St John Ambulance and Eye Care – one of the oldest and most respected NGOs in the world – is collaborating with South Africa’s national radio station, Lotus FM on World Sight Day, Thursday 12 October, offering free eye screenings at the SABC Durban Studios from 9am until noon.
Bubbly, charming and well-informed Lotus FM presenter, Krsna Priya Dasa, host of Style in the City, puts eye care in the spotlight for her programme on World Sight Day on Thursday 12 October between 9am to 12pm. She will be in the SABC M1 Studio, 100 KE Masinga Road, Durban, inviting listeners to come in for a free eye screening which includes basic visual and ocular health screening.
Everybody who participates will be entered into a draw to stand the chance to win an eye test and spectacles with tint, compliments of the non-profit organization St John South Africa.
World Sight Day is the most important advocacy and communications day in the eye health calendar to encourage people to be aware of eye care, held every year on the second Thursday in October. This year’s theme is “Love your Eyes” understanding that 75% of the world’s vision impairment is avoidable, the focus globally is to encourage people to take an eye test.
The International Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) has launched its annual campaign in the lead up to World Sight Day on October 12, 2023, with its key theme, ‘Love your Eyes at Work’, focusing on eye health in the workplace – especially with so much work time typically being spent in-front of a screen.
St John has an Eye Care Clinic in 129 KE Masinga Road / Old Fort Road Durban – a stone’s throw away from SABC – providing professional eye testing and the dispensing of budget spectacles.
A book seller from the Denis Hurley Centre Street Lit project – one of the CSI partners of St John – will be at the event with a table of affordable quality books for listeners to purchase. One of the joys of good eyesight is the ability to enjoy reading a book!
