In association with Concerts SA, saxophonist Linda Tshabalala presents her first national tour, in anticipation of her upcoming debut album.
Impelling the growth of jazz female instrumentalists in South Africa, Linda Tshabalala is a jazz saxophonist from Daveyton, Benoni. Following the opening leg of her national tour in Cape Town in January, Tshabalala will be performing during the first half of May in multiple venues across Durban and Johannesburg, being joined by young stellar artists in each city.
Inspired by her journey in music, Convergence is an upcoming debut offering from Tshabalala, who has believed in her calling in music from the tender age of nine years old. The album will be a representation of all the joys and struggles she has undergone pursuing her calling.
“The music on my upcoming album is of African descent, truly representative of an African in the new age who knows where she comes from and who she is”- Linda Tshabalala
In Durban, she will be supported by Mvuzo Dimba on piano, Gally Ngovheni on bass, Nozipho Mnguni on drums, Vuyo Vumisa on guitar, Mpumi Nhlapo on percussion, and Lesego Mokgatle on vocals – with Linda herself leading on alto saxophone and flute. This ensemble is set to perform on the first weekend of May at The Chairman, The Alliance Française, and South Record Store.
Through many of her own and others life experiences, Linda Tshabalala has found inspiration to create music that tells stories of the journey of life. One of her most acclaimed compositions is an ode titled Nomza, dedicated to her mother.
“It is the time for female instrumentalists to take their place in the industry, by no means am I saying I am the only advocate for such”- Linda Tshabalala.
Linda Tshabalala’s National Tour is supported by Concerts SA through the Music Mobility Fund, a funding mechanism which offers opportunities for South African musicians to undertake live music tours.
