Give Thanks Ensemble @ Utrecht Town Park 21 December and @ Kwantu Village, 22/23 December
In association with Concerts SA and Kwantu Village, afro-jazz collective Give Thanks Ensemble activates Utrecht on a full weekend of live music activities.
Led by composer Bongani Sibanyoni on piano, the Pretoria-based core band of the Give Thanks Ensemble includes Albert Craftsman on percussions, Bongani Mtsweni on guitar. For this Utrecht set of activities, they will be joined on bass by Newcastle-based Ntando Mbatha.
The Give Thanks Ensemble plays a cool blend of genres, ranging from neosoul, R&B, a bit of hip-hop, funk and a lot of jazz. Their packed set of weekend activities includes a workshop and two performances. The live shows include a paid show at Kwantu Village, and a free concert at Utrecht Town Park.
The Folk & Griot Festival (FAGF) is an art, music and lifestyle festival that celebrates the tradition and heritage of story-telling. This edition sees the official launch of the festival from 15th to 28th December, having hosted Sun Xa Experiment & Ntsane Lerato Lichaba (Urban Village) in 2016 and 2017 respectively as Folk & Griot Session (FAGS). The line-up consists of exciting and innovative griots who blend diverse artistic expressions, influences & folktales with true traditions of folklore.
The Give Thanks Ensemble Tour is supported by Concerts SA through the Music Mobility Fund.
