Durban City Orchestra presents an afternoon spring

Concerto Festival: Music-lovers are invited to an intimate afternoon concert in the company of the Durban City Orchestra (DCO) as they celebrate the incredible talent within their ranks with orchestra regulars taking turns in the spotlight in an eclectic programme of spring afternoon music in two performances – St Thomas Church on Sunday 31 August at 3pm, and reprised at St Agnes Church in Kloof on Sunday 7 September also at 3pm.
The programme features a range of beautiful concerti from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras – moving harmonies, rich melodies and the joy of seeing local talent shine. Featuring works from Copland; Thais, Mozart, Stamitz, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Anderson, Weber, Rachmaninov, Marcello and Sphor.
Soloists include Justin Butt; Cara Schafer; Wesley Lewis; Laila Jones; Wayne Swart; Heidi Paul; Roxanne Neff; Erika Dengler; Sifundo Myeza; Luthando Ngcobo; Ntokozo Nsibande and DCO conductor, Charl van der Merwe.
The orchestra, one of the longest running orchestras in the country, has a complement of approximately 30 active members who get together weekly. The orchestra includes two accomplished professional musicians in Charl van der Merwe as Resident Conductor and Jitske Brien as Concert Master.
The concert is hosted by the Durban City Orchestra, and supported by Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra. Tickets through Quicket / at the door on the day.
