In association with Concerts SA, the Tshwane-based art collective Capital Arts Revolution (CAR) has put together a special ensemble that will activate, with music, the KwaZulu-Natal areas of Utrecht, Newcastle and surroundings.
The CAR Ensemble On The Road Tour is the musical arm of CAR’s Arts Education and Cultural exchange program. A selected group of professional musicians will go to KwaZulu-Natal, Utrecht and Newcastle to share their music with the community around the different music venues and other spaces which otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity of such an experience. They will also give music workshops in schools and collaborate with fellow professional musicians conducting master classes that can help transfer skill, knowledge and information directly between professional musicians.
The CAR Ensemble includes a selected line-up of Pretoria-based young performers: charismatic guitar savant Sibusile Xaba, vocalist Naftali (from The Royal Family), bassist Ntando Mbatha, percussionist Nhlanhla The Drum Whisper, and multi-instrumentalist Bongani Mtsweni aka The Beatbox Soulogist.
The performances, presentations and informative outreach workshops will be deeply rooted in South African music and will lay a foundation for future work and career opportunities- not only in KwaZulu-Natal, Utrecht and Newcastle but South Africa as a whole.
Capital Arts Revolution Project Manager Lerato Kuzwayo says: “The relevant connections we make and the people we meet will secure a mutual beneficiary working relationship which will bear fruit in the future. We have a great passion to travel the entire country and share our music with the South African people.”
Bassist Ntando Mbatha says “We live to share music with people from all parts of the world. We are very grateful that Capital Arts Revolution, Concerts SA and Kwantu Village have teamed up and given us this opportunity. We simply cannot wait to share, play and learn”.
Vocalist Naftali says: “Music is a universal language, it’s a language of unity and we always use it for the positive. It’s great that Concerts SA and Kwantu Village see things the same way. Blessed love, KZN we coming soon”. And guitarist Sibusile Xaba summarises: “We taking it home, literally, injabulo nje.”
Capital Arts Revolution Ensemble On the Road Tour is supported by Concerts SA through the Music Mobility Fund, a funding mechanism which offers opportunities for South African musicians to undertake live music tours.
