Amanzimtoti High School finishes a respectable tenth

Consistent, Amanzimtoti High School finishing their third appearance in style at the SPAR KZN School Girls Hockey Challenge, they took on travelling team Ferrum High School from Newcastle in the final classification games, sadly going down by a solitary goal.
The festive team from Toti never gave up, keeping Durban Girls’ College quiet in their first pool game, only allowing them to net 3 goals. In their second pool game, the Durban South Regional Winners took on newcomers, St John’s DSG who managed a whole handful of goals. The third pool game, Toti met Grantleigh from Richards Bay in a tightly contested game with neither of the teams being able to score. In their final pool game, the took on the ‘giant slayers’ King Edward High School from Matatiele, who having just kept Durban Girls College to a nil all draw, managed to net three goals against Toti.
For the second year running, Varsity College have been onboard, travelling to all of the regionals watching the up-and-coming talent, offering two players a full hockey bursary. This year they awarded the two bursaries to captain of Amanzimtoti, Phiwokuhle Myeza and captain of St Anne’s, Brady Wiseman. Myeza hopes to study Sports Management through Varsity College.
Coach for Amanzimtoti, Shanna Hughes said, “What an amazing tournament! Thanks again to SPAR and aQuelle for what they have done to make this a fun-filled weekend. Also to the Tournament Director, Les Galloway who always goes the extra mile. The girls had an absolute blast.”

Amanzimtoti High School have in all of their three consecutive years, finished an honourable tenth in the Grand Finals.
