Acclaimed Japanese maestro Yasuo Shinozaki, prepares for Thursday evening’s KZN Philharmonic Orchestra’s Winter Symphony Season concert by contemplating those who lost their lives in the Great War by visiting the Durban City Cenotaph war memorial near the Durban City Hall. One of the featured pieces of music for Thursday’s concert will be Elgar’s Cello Concerto written in the aftermath of the First World War, which will be performed by Russian-born cellist Alexander Ramm. Also on the programme will be Weber’s overture to Der Freischütz and Jean Sibelius’s stirring Symphony No 1. Maestro Shinozaki’s returns to the podium on Thursday 13 June to conduct two supreme masterpieces by Mozart. Soloist next week will be Sodi Braide, a noted young British born pianist of Nigerian parentage.
