Aviwe Annita – 24
Greater Durban YMCA Youth Co-Ordinator
1. What is the greatest thing about being a young person in SA today?
The greatest thing about being a South African youth today, is the opportunities that I have, the choices that I am allowed to make and also the freedom of express myself.
2. What is the single biggest challenge of being a young person in SA today?
The challenge is that we are not all informed. Coming from a very small town near Mthatha, I feel like people who are more informed are pressured or feel they have to come and look for work in the cities.
3. What one thing can young people do to make the world a better place?
The best thing that young people can do to make the world a better place is for them to be positive thinkers, the young people need to believe in themselves and to have an identity.
4. What one really useful thing can young people learn from their elders?
Young People can learn many different values from their elders, such as to love, care, unite, but above all – they can learn to be humble.
5. If you could be mayor of Durban what one thing would you do to help the youth?
Instead of focusing on diversion in schools, being the major would enable me to focus on grooming learners and young children for their future and possible careers
