After a famine, we have a feast! There is a smorgasbord of spoken word events currently in Durban.
Master storyteller, Dr Gcina Mhlophe will celebrate her birthday (Thursday 24 October) in style at the first annual free National Storytelling Day at the Bluff Showgrounds under the large wild fig tree this Thursday 24 October from 11am, with fellow storytellers and friends, in partnership with eThekwini Library Services and Department of Parks & Recreation.
Wushwini Pan African Centre stages its ground-breaking five-day arts festival titled Botho Heritage International Festival ‘umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu’ which runs from 23 to 27 October at Wushwini, overlooking the scenic Inanda Dam in KwaNgcolosi. The festival features a full programme of performances by a strong line-up of groups from throughout Africa showcasing dance, music, theatre, storytelling, exhibitions literature, fashion, crafts, wine tasting and poetry.
This weekend at the Courtyard Theatre at DUT campus, Eugene Ionesco’s classic theatre-of-the-absurd, Rhinoceros, will be performed on Friday 25 (10am and 7pm) and Saturday 26 October (10am and 7pm), hosted by the Alliance Francaise de Durban.
