SPAR Aquella Soccer Tournament

Howard College Grounds: 3 and 4 October

Celebrating it's ninth year, the SPAR / aQuellé Soccer Tournament promises to showcase some of the finest soccer talent in the province once again at Howard College Sports Grounds – Gate 10 - UKZN on 3 and 4 October, 2009.

With the aim of developing amateur soccer in KwaZulu-Natal, SPAR and aQuellé teamed up in 2001 to create what has now become a very exciting annual event in KZN soccer, thereby creating an opportunity for regional SAFA representatives to identify emerging talent amongst local amateur soccer players.

Soccer teams, selected from throughout the four SAFA designated regions of Eastern, Northern and Southern KZN, and the Midlands are sponsored by SPAR stores in their respective communities to take part in a regional final and the eight best teams come through to Durban to contest the finals.

Entrance to the grounds is free on both days and spectators are encouraged to come along and lend their support to the teams. The local community will also be treated to the Gagasi Radio and SPAR KZN teams in action in a curtain raiser exhibition match at 8am on Sunday before the start of the finals match at about 11am. There will be loads of give-aways and lucky draws for spectators on both days.

2 Oct: Ground No 2 KwaMashu

Local soccer fans can enjoy a full day of home grown talent when players take part in the Provincial finals of the SPAR Aquella Soccer Tournament that will be played on 2 October at Ground No 2 in KwaMashu.

Gateway SUPERSPAR

Competing in the central regional play offs of the SPAR Aquella Soccer Tournament that took place at Spine Road Soccer Grounds in Phoenix yesterday (Sunday) were the Gateway SUPERSPAR Team. The play off was nail biting with both teams matching the score line before Gateway scored in the dying minutes against Mega Philani SUPERSPAR 3-2.

Breaking away from his opponent is Senzo Biyela from Phoenix in the colours of Gateway SUPERSPAR.

Showing his skill and composure is Sihle Mhlongo from Phoenix who played brilliantly for Gateway SUPERSPAR.

Knowles SUPERSPAR

Competing in the central regional play offs of the SPAR Aquella Soccer Tournament that took place at Spine Road Soccer Grounds in Phoenix yesterday (Sunday) were the Knowles SUPERSPAR Team who played against the Mega Umlazi SUPERSPAR. The team from Pinetown went down to the team from the south, losing 6 nil.

Seen shooting for goal is Lucky Thabethe from Umlazi but was unsuccessful in the team jersey of Knowles SUPERSPAR

Seen attempting to get on the score sheet is Morningside resident Tsepo Matsie for Knowles SUPERSPAR but his valiant attempts were unsuccessful.

Clearing the ball from his goal area is Pinetown resident, Lendl Thavarayan for Knowles SUPERSPAR.

Mega Umlazi SUPERSPAR

Competing in the central regional play offs of the SPAR Aquella Soccer Tournament that took place at Spine Road Soccer Grounds in Phoenix yesterday (Sunday) were the Mega Umlazi SUPERSPAR Team who successfully went through to the next round defeating Knowles SUPERSPAR from Pinetown. The game was very one sided with Mega Umlazi SUPERSPAR dominating the game and winning 6 nil.

Dashing for goals is the centre forward for Mega Umlazi SUPERSPAR’s player Ntokzo Ndlovu.

Balancing after kicking the ball in for a corner is Umlazi resident, Siya Gina who played for the Mega Umlazi SUPERSPAR.

Umlazi resident Zwe Gwali is seen running with the ball in centre field for the Mega Umlazi SUPERSPAR.
